What is the profession of a cameraman?
Timéo: I work intermittently on the show and I work both in television positions and on shoots for commercials or films. I am responsible for developing the shots. I am considered a cameraman because I have worked on more than three feature films as a first assistant.
Louisa: I work on a permanent contract for a television channel. I am part of the imaging team, where I work under the direction of the director of photography. I manage two assistants. One handles the focus and film, while the other sets up the cameras and equipment.

Hervé: I turn the camera on and off, and I find the best framing. I am responsible for the sharpness of the images and the mobility of the cameras.
What do you like most about your job?
Timéo: I love my bohemian life, as they say. I change locations and move around a lot.
Louisa: I enjoy being on set. I then move around with the sound engineer and the journalist.
Hervé: I especially love working in cinema. I find it exciting and rewarding. But it’s not always easy to find contracts.
What do you like least about your job?
Timéo: It is becoming increasingly complicated to find interesting contracts.
Louisa: The hours I work often coincide with when my family members are sleeping or resting.
Hervé: A lot of things are based on networking and word of mouth. Sometimes, it’s frustrating.

Timéo: You need to have good relationships and be on the lookout for good opportunities.
Louisa: You must be rigorous, humble, and flexible.
Hervé: You need to be physically resilient to carry all the equipment, be responsible, and reliable.
What training is required to become a cameraman?
Training is essential to become a cameraman.
There are many training courses in the field of imaging and audiovisual:

- Professional license in technical activity and image
- BAC 5 cinema section Louis Lumière
- Master’s in professional cinema and audiovisual
- Diploma from the National Institute of Performing Arts.

There are two schools that offer cameraman training:
